MESSIAH BOOK ONE - PATHOGEN

THE SETTING

In the year 2762 AD mankind is little more that tribal clans scattered out across a landscape altered by a man induced polar shift in the year 2027. In a vain effort to contain an ancient virus accidentally released from glacial ice, man used the most deadly weapons in his arsenal, nuclear. Four of Earth’s major cities, all research centers for the newly discovered “Evolutionary Virus,” were targeted for purification. The resulting explosions raised the global temperature by one half of one degree, and scattered the spreading virus across the surface of the planet. Also called the Red Dawn virus because of it effects on the human body, the pathogen became panepidemic in 72 hours. The plague spread to all major life on the globe as it had over countless eons throughout Earth’s evolution. Once contracted, a human infected with the virus would have their genetic code ripped apart causing every blood vessel in their bodies to explode in an insane form of hemorrhagic fever, and by dawn of the next day would be dead.

But this virus was not new to our world, but among the first life forms to exist on this planet. Its life cycle coincided with the global warming and cooling periods of the earth. When the climate grew warm, the virus would awaken to serve its function. Red Dawn and not time or adaptation was the source of every major evolutionary jump the world had known. As it infected a given species, it would rewrite that life form’s genetic code causing massive damage or change to the organism. A species would be either annihilated, or changed into a new form. The tyrannosaurus, wooly mammoth and even man had been the result of the “Evolutionary Virus.” During the last great ice age the virus returned to dormancy and allowed evolution to crawl once again!

As the virus consumed life across the planet, world leaders made the decision to fight back and purge the plague of the 21st century. Four cities and apparent sources of contamination were targeted. Although one half of a single degree globally seemed insignificant, the sudden change helped the virus to flourish and spread across the nuclear winds. The resulting temperature changes also caused atmospheric currents to shift taking warmer air north, and colder air south. The polar ice at the northern pole began to melt as it accumulated at the southern most polar regions. Like a loose skin on an orange, this displacement caused the Earth’s crust to slip upon itself. The polar shift accomplished to human civilization what the virus had done to man.

In the 725 AS meaning in the 725th year after the shift, mans world is vastly different. New landscapes and species populate the Earth along with the remnants of the human race. Survivors descended from the Asian peoples perhaps granted resistance to the plague or “Death” from long ago by being the oldest race on Earth. Now simple people, they live in clans and tribe-based societies, with the knowledge of long ago lost in the ruins that was civilization. This is the World of The Messiah Chronicles.

THE PLOT

In the future world of 2762 AD, Doctor Jonathan Mace, MD, PhD awakes from a stasis experiment to find himself in a strange new world. The only survivor from the experimental Centurion Project, a deep space stasis experiment, Mace lived beyond the destruction of his civilization and the near total death of the human race. Saved from death himself, he is befriended by a young native woman, Chia. Chia a member of the last remnants of mankind is of Asian decent as are now all the humans of Earth. Beautiful yet strong, her desire is to save her people from the “Death” that once devastated the planet, and hopes the man who fell from the sky will be the omen the spirits have promised and the key to her clans survival.

After seeing the death first hand, Jonathan Mace knew what he must do, and he is the only one with the knowledge to do it. If together he and Chia can search the ruins of ancient Earth to unlock clues to the deadly plague of 2027, perhaps a cure can be found. As they race against the deadly “Red Dawn Virus,” and search a forgotten world they are constantly hunted by a mutated humanoid race know only as Mongor. Together they face dangers and adventures as they fall for each other, and hope the Messiah can save the last of the race of man.
